“This place is so peaceful and tranquil,” Safari said as she lay back in my arms.

We had come to the beach for a little because it was our last day and we had a few hours to kill before boarding the jet.

“Yeah it is,” I agreed. “I needed this, to be real.”

I had a lot of shit to handle when I got back home, so I needed a reset. I was about to be on some real life demon shit. Niggas playing with my money was a big ass no-no and Yank knew that. I told my niggas to fall back and let me handle it because he thought shit was sweet. He went to my brother with this bullshit excuse about a wreck and the car setting on fire with our bread in it. Niggas thought we were some fucking nuts, so I was gon’ show his ass the mothafuckin’ peanut gallery.

“My mother loved beaches,” Safari said, jarring me from my thoughts. “She always said staring at the waves changed our brain wave frequency.”

“When’s the last time you went to her grave?”

Her body stiffened when I asked that. I tried to allow her to lead the conversations when we talked about what she went through because I wanted her to be comfortable.

“I-I haven’t since I left.”

My brows furrowed. “Ain’t that been like almost a year? You ain’t been to your moms grave in a year?”

“I’ve never been,” she whispered.

“What?” I frowned, turning her to face me. “You never been to ya mother’s shit?”

She shook her head. “The day of the funeral is the day that I left.”

“Your peoples know where you are?”

“My best friend and her husband know,” she said then clarified, “Well they think I’m in Atlanta. I ended up coming further and not telling them, to keep them safe.

“What about the rest of your family?”

Swiping away her tears, she replied, “I didn’t have anyone but my mom. Her brothers and sisters didn’t fool with her so therefore I didn’t know them.”

“So what, baby, you just plan to go your entire life without visiting home, ya homegirl, hell, ya hometown?”

“Dexter is a very dangerous man, Prynceton. I’ve seen him do some horrible things to people, including me. I can’t chance going back there and something hap…”

“Ay,” I cut her off. “Ain’t shit gon’ happen to you, baby. Believe me when I say that.”

“You don’t understand, Prynce. I lose sleep at night thinking he’s going to show up and…what’s funny?” She frowned because I couldn’t stop the chuckle that escaped my lips.

“My fault, baby, I promise I’m not laughing at you, it’s just comical that you really have no idea who you’re dealing with.”

“It’s just…”

I cut her off. “I’m gon’ show you that I got you. Ain’t shit that can or will fuck with you again. You plugged into some shit not even Lucifer himself would think about touching.”

“Okay,” she whimpered. “I just don’t want this happiness to vanish. I just got it and I want to keep it.”

“Gon’ always make sure you’re happy,” I told her before kissing her lips.
